Assam CM Explores New Avenues of Collaboration with Bhutan, Envisions Transformative Growth

The CM lauded His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck’s visionary initiatives, which are inspiring transformative changes in the region.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in extensive discussions with Bhutanese stakeholders during his visit to Thimphu, emphasising mutual growth and development between Assam and Bhutan.

The Chief Minister lauded His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck’s visionary initiatives, which are inspiring transformative changes in the region. Sarma’s visit aimed to build stronger economic, industrial, and transportation linkages between Assam and Bhutan, particularly with Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC).

Taking on X CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “His Majesty’s vision is inspiring various game changing initiatives to herald transformative changes in the region. In Thimphu today, I held discussions with various stakeholders to explore areas of mutual growth.”

During his meeting with Dr Lotay Tshering, Governor of GMC, Sarma explored ways to foster cross-border cooperation. The discussions centered on developing industrial and transport connectivity to enhance trade and commerce.

Renewable energy was another key focus area. Sarma deliberated on meeting Assam’s power needs by collaborating with Druk Green Power Corporation to harness Bhutan’s renewable energy potential.

In addition, the Chief Minister urged Druk Holdings and Investment, Bhutan’s premier investment arm, to participate in the upcoming Advantage Assam summit, highlighting the immense opportunities available in the state.
