The rapid rise in Covid cases in Assam will become a major point of focus in the cabinet meeting that is set to be held in Haflong tomorrow. This has been informed by Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta. There is a possibility that further changes may be brought to the existing Covid SOPs which may bring in further restrictions being imposed in the state.
Meanwhile, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital Principal Dr. Achyut Baishya has said that the rapid increase in Covid cases in the state over the last few days was something they had anticipated over the detection of Omicron cases in the state.
A total of 6,982 new cases was detected in the state on January 18. As compared to Sunday’s figures of 2,709 cases, Assam reported an increase of 4,273 new cases, which is more than double. Meanwhile, the positivity rate has reached an alarming level of 10.75 percent, which is an increase of 1.76 percent as compared to the previous day.
