Assam: Bongaigaon on alert after vegetable vendor test COVID-19 positive

Among the four patients tested COVID-19 positive in Assam’s Bongaigaon district on Thursday, one individual is a vegetable vendor. The vegetable vendor was doing business till Wednesday before he tested positive, which have raised serious concerns.

Meanwhile, the health department is working relentlessly to ascertain the source from where the 4 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 had contracted the deadly virus.

The Bongaigaon primary health centre has been sealed after two employees of the PHC were tested positive for COVID-19. 8 doctors, their family members and 47 staff members of the hospital have been sent to quarantine.

Another individual from Bongaigaon who tested positive for COVID-19 had travelled to Sarbhog in Barpeta district on Monday.

6 persons who had come in contact with the Covid patient identified as Meena Biswakarma have been sent to quarantine at the Barpeta Medical College and Hospital.

The patient also had spent time with the family of Shibu Dey who are the residents of Sarbhog’s  No.2 ward. Meanwhile, Shibu Dey, his wife and their child have been sent to quarantine.

The patient had also withdrawn cash from Sarbhog branch of the State Bank of India. Three employees of the SBI have also been sent to quarantine.

Meanwhile, the Assam health department will be collecting samples of individuals in Bongaigaon district on a random basis for COVID-19 tests.

It may be mentioned that 25 samples will be collected in each area from where the positive cases have been reported.

Earlier, yesterday health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the situation in Bongaigaon district which has been declared as a ‘Red Zone’.
