Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda has appointed party leader Bhabesh Kalita as the president of the Assam unit of the party on Saturday.
“The appointment comes into immediate effect,” an order issued by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh stated.
“BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed Bhabesh Kalita, MLA as State President of Assam BJP. The appointment comes into immediate effect,” the statement read.
The Rangia MLA will replace Assam State Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass as the state BJP unit chief. Ranjeet Dass has been inducted to the State cabinet as Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Panchayat and Rural Development.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Bhabesh Kalita on being appointed as the State party chief.
Stating that Kalita’s dedication towards Assam’s development is exemplary, Sarma hoped under his able leadership, the party would reach new heights.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a comfortable majority in the Assam Assembly elections, winning 75 seats of the total 126 constituencies.
