The 12-hour Cachar bandh called by the Congress and other organisations in protest against the Tinsukia killings has affected normal life in Silchar.

Protesters took to the streets early on in the day chanting slogans and blocking roads.
Shutdown has also been reported from other areas of the Barak Valley.

It may be mentioned that BJP and Congress workers took out simultaneous protest rallies condemning the Tinsukia incident.

Meanwhile, swinging into action, police also detained a number of protesters in Silchar.

The protesters were detained when they were demonstrating outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
