Assam is set for the Assembly elections results to be out tomorrow. The polls for 126-member Assam assembly seats were held in three phases from March 27 to April 6.
Altogether 946 candidates were in the fray for the election to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly. The elections were held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
Security has been beefed up across the state ahead of the result day tomorrow.
The counting of votes will start at 8 am and initial trends may get cleared by 10-11 am. The final picture with winning seats will be clear by around 5 pm.
Apart from Assam, the results for West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala will also be out tomorrow.
The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for counting of votes on May 2 for the Assam assembly polls by putting in place measures to ensure strict adherence to health protocols, as it is taking place amid a raging second wave of COVID-19.
It is worth mentioning that owing to the spiraling COVID-19 cases across the country, the ECI has curbed the entry of polling agents into the counting centres without an RT-PCR test certificate or two doses of vaccination.
The poll panel has also prohibited victory rallies, and notified that not more than two people should accompany the winning candidate.
Meanwhile, Assam director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has requested the political leaders and members to adhere to Election Commission of India’s (ECI) guidelines during and after counting of votes for assembly elections on May 2.
“My appeal to the respected leaders & members of political parties to adhere to the guidelines by ECI regarding ban on celebration, victory march etc. on 2nd May. At this critical hour, saving the society & the people from this cruel surge of #Covid19 ought to be our top priority,” the DGP stated in a series of tweets.
DGP Mahanta held a meeting with all the SSPs and SDPOs to discuss arrangements for conducting a safe and peaceful counting in the backdrop of COVID-19 infection.
