Assam Assembly Election results: CM Sarbananda Sonowal wins from Majuli

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who was leading in the race has won once again from the Majuli Constituency. This is his second consecutive victory.

Sonowal defeated his nearest rival Rajib Lochan Pegu of Congress by a margin of over 42,000 votes.

Taking to Twitter, Sonowal lauded the party’s win in the state. He called the win a ‘victory for Barak-Brahmaputra, Hills and Plains’ and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“A victory for Barak-Brahmaputra, Hills & Plains. Thank you Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodiji,” Sonowal tweeted.

Meanwhile, top BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has retained the Jalukbari seat for the fifth consecutive term.

Sarma defeated his Congress rival Romen Borthakur with a huge margin of 1,01,911 votes.

As per latest trends, the ruling BJP is leading in 55 assembly seats, while the Congress is leading in 28 seats.
