‘Assam-Arunachal Border Row to End During Our Tenure’, Assures CM Himanta at Mopin Festival

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today made a significant announcement during his address at the 59th Central Mopin Festival of the Galo community in Aalo, West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. He assured the people that the long-standing border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be resolved during his and Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s tenure in office.

With Chief Minister Khandu seated beside him, Dr Sarma declared, “I’m giving you full assurance that the issue will be resolved during our time.”

Dr Sarma also called upon the Galo and other indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh to preserve their unique cultural identity while embracing positive influences from the outside world. “Let your traditions and customs remain strong even as you grow with modernity,” he told the gathering.

The Assam Chief Minister, accompanied by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, took part in traditional rituals performed by the Galo community during the Mopin Festival celebrations. Both leaders also interacted with local residents of the Galo community and members of the Assamese community living in Aalo.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu reiterated his commitment to resolving the border dispute. “We have been working to resolve this issue for a long time. Himanta Biswa is also taking a great initiative. The issue started back in the 1950s it’s been over 75 years now. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, both states are putting in serious efforts to bring a final solution,” said Pema Khandu.

It may be mentioned that the recent cabinet meeting chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu reviewed the current status and progress of the Assam-Arunachal boundary discussions.
