At a time when there is a lot of controversy over coal mining in Meghalaya and alleged illegal syndicates prevailing in Assam, the state of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday decided to resume coal mining.
The decision of the Pema Khandu-led Arunachal Pradesh government was made known to the media through an official press statement issued by the PR cell of the Chief Minister’s office.
The decision was taken during a review meeting of the state’s Geology and Mining Department which was attended by Pema Khandu. Coal mining was halted in Namchik – Namphuk coalfields in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh following an order from the Supreme Court.
Khandu gave the go ahead to resume mining after payment of an additional levy of 32 crores which was imposed by the Ministry of Coal.
