The AAPSU has renewed its demand for resolving the Offspring issue at the earliest. The AAPSU has been demanding a permanent solution to the matter of an offspring born to a Scheduled Tribe (ST) woman from Arunachal and a non-tribal man, enjoying ST benefits in the state.
AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai alleged that the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs is not taking any interest in the issue which forced the AAPSU to hit the streets on December. Dai maintained that the offspring issue is very serious as it is related to securing the future of the indigenous people.

Dai informed that there have been a series of meetings with SJETA of the state government during which a draft report has been handed over to the student’s body. Dai also said that the AAPSU is minutely observing the draft proposal report which includes a few contentious points.
Meanwhile, the AAPSU is reviewing the draft with the help of its legal advisers. Within a day or two, the AAPSU would be handing over the draft back to the SJETA. A series of consultative meetings have also been held with different stakeholders of the society regarding the government’s draft proposal.
