Efforts to conduct an aerial survey of the area and a search mission is being hit since yesterday due to heavy rains and inclement weather.

There is still no trace of Tapi Mra, the first mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh to conquer Mount Everest, who has gone missing, along with his assistant Niku Dao after they set out on an official expedition to explore the Khyari Satam mountain in the state’s East Kameng district.

Efforts to conduct an aerial survey of the area and a search mission is being hit since yesterday due to heavy rains and inclement weather.

Since last night, the area is being hit by heavy rains due to which the army choppers have not been able to carry out aerial surveys.

In the meantime, two Advanced Light Helicopters and two Cheetah helicopters have been kept on standby to carry out reconnaissance and rescue operations once the weather clears up.

Apart from this, the army is also planning to deploy highly trained special forces to carry out ground search operations for the two missing mountaineers.

Meanwhile, Tapi Mra and Niku Dao have not returned to the base camp for a week now. Five porters who accompanied them to the base camp returned yesterday, however, there is no news about Tapi Mra and his assistant.

Reportedly, the location from where Mra and his team have gone for the expedition is quite inaccessible and takes 6 days of a foot march from the last village.

On the other hand, the circle officer of Sawa along with other rescue parties are camped at Veo Venia village from where the expedition was launched. Meanwhile, special teams are also on standby and will conduct ground search operations once the weather clears up and an aerial survey is conducted.
