In the wake of flash flood threat triggered by a blockade in the Yarlung Tsangpo river in China due to landslides, authorities in Arunachal Pradesh’ East Siang district have started evacuation from a few of the most vulnerable areas.

Authorities have asked staff of the Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary to move to a safer place, which is spread over riverine islands and is around 15 km from Pasighat

The Arunachal Pradesh Government had already issued a flash flood warning on the downstream of Siang River in the State following apprehensions that a blockade in the Yarlung Tsangpo river in China caused due to landslides may burst any time causing massive loss to life and property.

According to the latest updates, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak is giving updates on the situation to the state Chief Secretary through video conference.

The district administration had earlier cautioned the general public not to venture into the river or around its periphery as a preventive measure.

According to an order issued by the East Siang district administration landslides in Tibet blocked Milin section of the Yarlung Tsangpo.

The vulnerable areas identified by the district administration in East Siang are Jarku, Paglek, SS Mission, Jarkong, Bankskota, Berung, Jampani, Sigar, Ralling Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing, Mer and Gadum.

Moreover, the district administration has directed the general public not to collect logs, trees, bamboo clams or any other vegetative materials from the banks of the river as it might serve as a Natural Flood Control Mechanism.

The administration has warned that any violators would be charged under section 188 of the India Penal Code.

Meanwhile, police stations and disaster management authorities have also been alerted about the possibility of a disaster, asking them to take all preventive measures for mitigation.
