A shocking and disheartening incident has come to the fore from Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh, where a 12-year-old boy was allegedly killed by kidnappers as his father failed to pay a ransom of Rs 15 lakh demanded by them.

The deceased boy has been identified as Rohit Bahadur Chetry, son of Nar Bahadur Chetry who is a cattle rearer, originally from Sadiya in Assam but residing in Sunpura, Lohit.

As per inputs, Rohit was kidnapped on July 21 while returning home from school. After he did not return home and the day passed, his father filed a missing person complaint at the Sunpura Police Station on July 22.

Despite launching an investigation, the police were initially unable to locate the missing child.

On Tuesday night, Nar Bahadur received a threatening call from the abductors, who demanded the ransom amount of Rs 15 lakh to secure Rohit’s release. The abductors threatened to kill Rohit if not given the amount.

However, as a struggling cattle rearer, Nar Bahadur could not gather such a large sum and as he failed to pay the ransom, the abductors killed Rohit and buried his body in Sunpura.

The police recovered his body last night and sent to the Tezu District Hospital for postmortem, said Tumme Amo, SP, Lohit.

Police arrested two persons involved in the case. The arrested individuals have been identified as–Nagasu Tamai and Gobinda Tamang. The duo is suspected to be drug addicts.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
