In a significant operation, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles along with Arunachal Pradesh police on the afternoon of October 1, apprehended two active cards of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) ULFA (I) group in Tirap district with arms and ammunition.
The militants had sneaked across the Indo-Myanmar border in a bid to carry out subversive activities in Assam. The apprehended cadres were identified as Private Nilutpal Asom (also known as Monjit Gogoi) and Private Upen Asom (also known as Ruhini Gogoi). Both of them come from Assam and were recruited into the group last year.
Militants known to have bases in Myanmar have been trying relentlessly to cross into the Indian territory to carry out subversive activities.
Despite the long and porous Indo-Myanmar border, the Security Forces have been trying to curb their influx. This year alone, there have been numerous apprehensions and surrenders of ULFA (I) cadres in Southern areas of Arunachal Pradesh, which has dealt a serious blow to the activities and hierarchy of the banned outfit
