Woman carrying 2.519 kg raw opium arrested in Manipur
In its war against drugs, Manipur police along with a team of 36 Assam Rifles on March 27, seized raw opium weighing 2.519 kilograms. One lady was arrested in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Nengrosenem Kipgen wife of Lunminthang Kipgen of Selshi village, Sangaikot SD, Churachandpur.
According to police sources, the Churachandpur police received a tip-off that transport of contraband substances was carried from Lailoiphai towards Churachandpur.
A team of Churachandpur police led by an officer-in-charge Sangaikot Thangpu Kipgen and a team of 36 Assam Rifles of Sangaikot post started frisking and checking at Sangaikot police station gate. A passenger vehicle was stopped and individuals were asked to step out of the vehicle. A lady acted suspiciously. When she was frisked, raw opium in a cloth wrapped around her waist was found.
A case has been registered for further investigation.
On March 24, in two separate crackdowns against drugs conducted in Manipur and Tripura on Thursday, two women peddlers have been arrested alongwith their male accomplices.
During the search operation, 23 soap cases of brown sugar weighing about 329 grams were recovered from Manipur and brown sugar weighing around 400 gms and Yaba tablets were recovered from Tripura.
