Massive anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests broke out at the Jama Masjid in Delhi, located in the old city, after the Friday prayers. Hundreds of people gathered on the steps of the mosque and raised slogans against the amended Citizenship Act.
The Bhim Army had planned to take out a protest march from Jama Masjid to Jantar Mantar against the amended citizenship law. However, the Delhi Police denied permission.
The march was expected to see the participation of students from Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia. Bhim Army chief Chandrashekar Azad was spotted among the protesters holding a book with BR Ambedkar’s photo on it.
The prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPc are still in place near the Red Fort area, prohibiting an assembly of four or more people.
The security arrangements have been beefed up around Jama Masjid where Friday congregational prayers were held.
