Another Haj pilgrim from Assam dies in Mecca, death count rises to 5

The deceased has been identified as Jalaluddin Laskar, a resident of Gossaipur in Cachar district.
One more pilgrim from Assam died on Tuesday during the Haj pilgrimage in the Holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
The deceased has been identified as Jalaluddin Laskar, a resident of Gossaipur in Cachar district. He died due to the prevailing scorching heat and extreme heatwave conditions.
As per inputs, he died of a heart attack at Mecca’s Arafa Ground.
This has taken the total number of Haj pilgrims from Assam dying in Mecca during the pilgrimage to 5.
Earlier 3 pilgrims from the state died on June 16, while one died on June 9.
They have been identified as -Maulana Saifuddin from Cachar, Saleha Begum from Hailakandi, Zareena Begum from Barpeta and Jahir Uddin Majumdar.
They are among at least 3800 pilgrims from the state sent to Mecca by the Assam Joint State Haj Committee, said its chairman Nekibur Zaman.
According to reports, sweltering heat amid soaring temperatures has claimed the lives of at least 550 pilgrims during the ongoing Haj in Mecca.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Health Ministry has called on pilgrims to keep drinking water to stay hydrated and use umbrellas to avoid sunstroke and heat-related illnesses as temperatures soared in the region.
The annual Haj pilgrimage, a holy journey for Muslims worldwide will come to an end today.
