This data is accessible through the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), which aims to reduce PM2.5 and PM10 levels in Indian cities by 40% of 2017 levels by 2026, according to a press release from Respirer Living Science.

Patna ranks second with a PM2.5 level of 99.7 μg/m3, experiencing a 24% decline in air quality over the previous year. Seven of the top 10 polluted cities are in Delhi-NCR and Bihar, all situated in the Indo-Gangetic Plain.

Comparing air quality during peak pollution months (October–March) from 2019 to 2023, the report found that Mumbai’s air quality deteriorated steadily, while Delhi’s and Lucknow’s improved.
