Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambram were today charge-sheeted by CBI in the Aircel-Maxis case.
Significantly, Assam additional chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who was then Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance has also been charge-sheeted by the CBI along with 15 other officials.
According to reports, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who is a 1985 batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer, is in line to be the chief secretary of the state.
In a fresh supplementary charge sheet filed by CBI, Chidambaram is accused of misusing power and position as Finance Minister.
The CBI also alleged that he flouted norms to grant FIPB clearance to Global Communication Holding Services Limited. According to CBI, in the year 2006 Chidambaram sanctioned the sale of telecom Aircel to Malaysia’s Maxis without following due process.
The Chidambaram’s along with 16 other officials are accused of similar corruption in a deal dating to 2007 when foreign investment go-ahead was given to INX Media, then owned by Indrani and Peter Mukerjea. The court will hear the charge sheet on July 31.
