Meghalaya Congress President Vincent Pala has made a big statement in connection to former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s exit from the party. Pala said that the high command knew well in advance of Mukul Sangma and the exit of some other MLAs from the party. Pala further claimed that the exit call was taken even before he took over as the Meghalaya Congress president. Vincent Pala even went on to say that the AICC had forewarned him about the possible exit of Mukul Sangma and company.
Pala also hinted that Congress might pursue and challenge the decision of the Speaker allowing the merger of the 12 INC leaders with the TMC recently.
Pala added that they will have a meeting with the party high command, CLP leader and leaders after the new year. After having a proper deliberation a collective decision will be taken on the matter.
Meanwhile, contradicting CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh Vincent Pala said that he is not in favor of a pre-poll alliance with any regional parties. The Congress president’s statement comes at a time when CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh has called upon regional parties to align with the Congress. Pala cited the example of other states where the Congress went into a pre-poll alliance with other parties thus resulting in the Congress party becoming smaller in those states. “Win or lose we should ask for a mandate from the public,” said Pal.
Meghalaya Congress is facing troubling times since the departure of Mukul Sangma and eleven other MLAs last November. Just a few days back remaining Congress MLAs led by Ampareen Lyngdoh met with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma offering devoted support to the government on issues related to the development of the state.
