Director General of Assam Police, Kuladhar Saikia has revealed that with the release date of the final draft of National Register of Citizens approaching fast on June 30, authorities in Assam are taking no chances as far as internal security situation in the State is concerned.
Kuladhar Saikia has also asked the Superintendents of Police of all the districts to assess the requirement of Central Armed Paramilitary Force (CAPF) in view of the publication of the second draft of the NRC on June 30.
A team of senior government and police officials, led by Chief Secretary T Y Das, has been holding meetings at the district level and the third such meeting was held yesterday at Darrang where the law and order situation of three districts were reviewed.
The meeting at Darrang, attended by the Chief Secretary, the DGP and others reviewed the law and order situation of Darrang, Udalguri and Sonitpur districts.
Meanwhile, the Registrar General and census commissioner of India, Sailesh visited Assam and took stock of the update process of the NRC.
Sailesh held a video conference with the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of all districts from Barpeta in lower Assam and discussed issues relating to preparation of the complete draft NRC, which is to be published on June 30.
