They were detained for attempting to board a train and travel further to India after illegally crossing the Bangladesh-India border.

After a day of TIPRA Motha Chief Pradyot Debbarma highlighting the continuous influx from Bangladesh to Tripura, the state police on Thursday arrested six more Bangladeshi nationals at the Jirania Railway Station near Agartala.

They were detained for attempting to board a train and travel further to India after illegally crossing the Bangladesh-India border.

The individuals, consisting of three men and three members of the third gender, were arrested during a coordinated operation by the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), Border Security Force (BSF), and Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The suspects, identified as Ekhlas Mia, Rubayet Hossain, Zakira, Zakaraiya, Tanvir Ahmed, and Mohammad Mominul Haque, were apprehended based on intelligence reports. Following their detention, the group was taken to the Agartala GRP station for questioning.

Authorities suspect that the individuals may be part of a larger network involved in illegal border crossings, and further arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.

A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP station, with officials working to uncover the full scope of the operation.

It needs to be mentioned that, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma stated that the infiltration continues unabated and the situation has remained unchanged since the last 5 years.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Pradyot Debbarman said, “If these people keep coming, and nobody is taking any action the question needs to be asked where is the commitment to protect our people, our land from these people who are entering illegally?
I have no problem if they enter legally but the way these people are coming in without any checks and balances aren’t they creating a problem for the future?”
