ABSU urges Bodoland University VC to establish new departments to benefit students

ABSU in its memorandum to the VC, requested proper conduct of exams and timely announcement of results.

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Dr Babulal Ahuja, Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University and flagged issues related to delays in declaration of exam results, 70% of the University staff should be locals and setting up of Mass Communication, Nepali, Hindi and English language departments within the University.

Speaking to the media after submitting the memorandum, ABSU President Dipen Boro said that the memorandum demonstrates ABSU’s dedication to enhancing educational standards and extending academic opportunities to the students studying at Bodoland University.

He said that the memorandum also focussed on the need to conduct examinations on time and the providing books to the students on time.

Establishment of Hindi, Nepali, and Bengali departments within the University would give a fillip to enhance language education, Bodo said.

The Union also requested the inclusion of professional courses such as MSW (Master of Social Work) and the establishment of a Mass Communication department, Physical Education and Sociology department to benefit the students.

In case of teaching and non-teaching staff of the university ABSU has requested that the appointment of the staff should have 70% people from among the locals.

Moreover, the president informed that in a collaborative effort of ABSU and the Bodoland University placement cell, a permanent orientation campus for Civil Service and other elite competitive examinations will be started in the University after June 15.

He also said that ABSU will always work for the development of Bodoland University and will take initiatives to cater every single need of the students and staff of the university by extinguishing the prolonged issues.

President Dipen Boro also informed that VC Dr Babulal Ahuja, has assured to fulfill all the requests and developmental initiatives required to cater to the needs of the students.

It is to be mentioned here that Dr Babulal Ahuja assumed the office of the Vice-Chancellor on March 15 this year marking a new beginning following intermittent protests seeking removal of the earlier VC (Laishram Ladu Singh).

The Bodo heartland had witnessed massive protests since last year demanding the removal of then VC of Bodoland University Laishram Ladu Singh over his alleged involvement in financial irregularities in the learning institute.
