A total of 391 students from Assam, who were stranded in Kota in Rajasthan, have finally reached Guwahati.
The students, who reached Assam in 18 special buses, reached Guwahati at around 3 am today. The students were taken straight to the quarantine facility at the Sarusajai Sports Complex where they were received by state health and finance Himanta Biswa Sarma and minister of state for health Pijush Hazarika.
All the students have been put into quarantine facility for a period of 14 days as per health protocols. While the male students are being put at the Sarusajai quarantine facility, the female students are being put up in three hotels in the city.
The three hotels are Hotel Bhargav Grand, Hotel Royal Heritage and Hotel Parashuram have been prepared as quarantine facilities where the female passengers have been transferred.
Apart from the students, the passengers from Kota also include the students’ guardians, teachers, police personnel and the bus drivers. Together, the total number of people set to be quarantined stand at 467.
The students upon reaching Guwahati thanked the government for bringing them home safely and also recounted their experience back in Kota during the lockdown.
Talking to the media later, Sarma talked about the students who came in and the quarantine facilities they would be put in.
Earlier yesterday, the buses entered Assam via the Srirampur border and they had a stop at Kajal Gaon in Chirang district where the students were given refreshments and a screening procedure was undertaken with each of the passengers. After that, they were given the go ahead to move onwards to Guwahati.
All of the students were studying in Kota when the lockdown came into force which resulted into their stranding. Upon special request to the Assam government, the students were brought to Assam in 18 special buses.
