1st consignment of Mizo Pineapple exported to Dubai

These exported pineapples were harvested by farmers of Sialhawk village in Mizoram's northeastern Khawzawl District.

Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia flagged off the first consignment of pineapples to be exported to Dubai from the Directorate of Horticulture building in Aizawl.

These exported pineapples were harvested by farmers of Sialhawk village in Mizoram’s northeastern Khawzawl District. 230 kilos of Pineapples were exported to Dubai in the first consignment.

Around 250 families in Sialhawk village cultivated pineapples and have harvested close to 10,000 quintals. They are expecting more before the end of the season.

At least 6,400 quintals of pineapples were harvested which earned them about Rs 95 lakh last year. The pineapples would be exported to Dubai through Mumbai-based agency Fair Exports Pvt Ltd.

As per the State horticulture department, most of the pineapples would be exported to Dubai which has about a total of 900 kilos in the second consignment while Qatar and Bahrain would also receive their share of 740 Kilos each of Sialhawk pineapples in a few days.

All the pineapples harvested in Sialhawk are organic as the cultivators do not use any weedicide in the pineapple cultivation.
