16 tiger teeth seized in Assam’s Diphu; 4 arrested

Four persons were apprehended by Assam police for allegedly trying to smuggle tiger teeth in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday. In a successful operation, police recovered 16 tiger teeth

Four persons were apprehended by Assam police for allegedly trying to smuggle tiger teeth in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.

In a successful operation, police recovered 16 tiger teeth from their possession at Birla under Diphu police station. According to police all four are suspected to be involved in the smuggling of animal parts Further investigation is underway.

Tiger teeth and other animal parts are exported to various countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar.

The export of animal body parts is prohibited under the provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy, the Customs Act and the Wildlife (Protection) Act.
