Sangma is expected to face tough competition from NPP’s Mehtab Chandee, wife of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, State BJP Vice President Bernard Marak, and Congress candidate Jingjang M. Marak.
"Whatever the reason was, I quit the party and was with TMC for two and a half years. I am happy to return home (Congress party)," said Bora.
Dr Mukul Sangma cautioned the ruling NPP, suggesting that the situation could turn against them.
Mukul Sangma sharply criticized the government for its perceived inaction on urgent issues affecting the livelihoods of the people.
This comes after the Meghalaya Congress’ strength reduced to just 1 in the Assembly, after the defection of 3 of its MLAs
Irrespective of the number of seats Congress have in the Assembly, the vote share it has is very high, said Pyngrope.
This decision, made by the state party unit, will now be sent to the All India Trinamool Congress Chairperson, Mamata Banerjee, for final approval.
The Trinamool Congress is leading on 24 seats, BJP on 7 and Congress on 3 and CPI(M) on one seat, as per the ECI.
Meghalaya Education Minister and state NPP general secretary Rakkam A Sangma said, "This time it is a very interesting election we have experienced, unexpected. We had a very tough fight."
