National Games 2025: With 4 Golds and 4 Silvers, Manipur Is Second in Medals Tally After Karnataka

With seven medals — five golds and two silvers, Karnataka is leading the medals tally.

Manipur has taken off to a great start at the 38th National Games that is underway in Uttarakhand. With four gold and four silver medals, Manipur is ranked second in the medals tally after Karnataka.

Sarungbam Athouba Meitei won the first gold medal for Manipur in the men’s individual Triathlon event. He was joined by other gold medalists, including Saya and Laxmi, who triumphed in the Women’s and Bonisana in the Men’s categories of Wushu.

With seven medals — five golds and two silvers, Karnataka is leading the medals tally.

All eyes will be on Lovlina Borgohain, Olympic bronze medallist, who is representing Assam in the Games in boxing events on January 31 at the Hari Singh Thapa Sports College Indoor Stadium.

The edition features 32 core sports, from regular Olympic events like athletics and swimming to uniquely Indian contests like kabaddi, and mapped against India’s age-long sporting heritage, there will be four each of demonstration sports-mallakhamb, kalarippayattu, rafting, and yoga asana.

More than 10,000 athletes, coaches and officials from different states, Union Territories and institutions are expected to compete in medal events at the National Games.

The event is organized by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). It began with triathlon events on January 26. Kho kho and basketball officially began on January 28. Boxing, set to feature Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, will get underway at Shri Hari Singh Thapa Sports College Indoor Stadium on January 31.

However, the National Games 2025, India’s own Olympic-style multi-sport event, will officially begin with an opening ceremony at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun on January 28 and will run till February 14 in Uttarakhand.

Sporting events at the National Games will conclude on February 13 and will be followed by the closing ceremony a day later.

National Games 2025 is seeing the participation of athletes from 28 states, eight Union Territories, and the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB). With 32 sports, the competition has already witnessed intense battles for medals.
