In an effort to encourage young minds, Industrialist Anand Mahindra has announced that he will be gifting an electric car to the parents of young Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa, who made the nation proud by bagging first runner’s up title at the FIDE World Cup 2023.

The idea of gifting a car came about after Anand Mahindra had posted a picture of Praggnanandhaa’s mother starring at her son with love filled eyes and Anand Mahindra, the billionaire businessman and chairman of Mahindra Group captioned the picture as ‘Maa, Tujhe Salaam… #Pragg’. Fans started commenting and in one comment the person requested Anand Mahindra to gift him a Thar.

Taking to X (formerly twitter), Anand Mahindra replying to a fan’s request wrote, “Appreciate your sentiment, Krishlay, & many, like you, have been urging me to gift a Thar to @rpragchess But I have another idea … I would like to encourage parents to introduce their children to Chess & support them as they pursue this cerebral game (despite the surge in popularity of video games!). It’s an investment in a better future for our planet, just like EVs. And so, I think we should gift an XUV4OO EV to the PARENTS of @rpragchess Shrimati Nagalakshmi & Shri Rameshbabu, who deserve our gratitude for nurturing their son’s passion & for giving him their untiring support. What do you think, @rajesh 664 ?

He also tagged Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO (Auto and Farm Sector), Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.

To which, Rajesh Jejurikar in a reply wrote, “ Congratulations @rpragchess for your spectacular achievement. Thanks @anandmahindra for the idea of recognising PARENTS of @rpragchess Shrimati Nagalakshmi & Shri Rameshbabu. The All Electric SUV XUV400 would be perfect-our team will connect for a special edition and delivery.”

Praggnanandhaa also known as Pragg is the youngest Indian Chess player to defeat the world’s second and third ranked players to make it to the World Cup final, after chess legend Vishwanathan Anand won the title back in 2002.

In the first round of the game, Pragg managed to defeat the world’s top-ranked Magnus Carlsen, however, Carlsen took over and defeated him in a round of tie-breakers on Thursday.
