Deviating from projecting himself as the BJP’s CM face, Hek said it does not matter who takes the crown, but it has to be from the BJP
Within days of having projected himself as a CM face ahead of the Meghalaya elections, senior BJP leader and former Health minister in the NPP-led Conrad Sangma government, AL Hek now seems to have made a U-turn on the issue and is saying it does not matter who takes the crown. He, however, is confident of BJP improving on its numbers this time.
When asked if he is also in the Chief Minister’s race, Hek deviated from his previous stand of projecting himself as the BJP’s Chief ministerial face and said that it does not matter who takes the crown, but it has to be from the BJP, and it will be a reality.
“The BJP for the first time in the history of BJP Meghalaya is contesting all the 60 seats of the Meghalaya legislative assembly. This time the BJP led government will come in the state of Meghalaya and the state will have a BJP Chief Minister.” Al Hek said.
Countering allegations of the BJP’s alleged anti-minority policies, Hek reasoned that there are fanatics in any organisation, community, religion, or group because of whom the respective group is blamed.
To support his point of view, Hek cited how, at the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) rally, a few fanatics caused a commotion while the entire group was blamed and faced backlash.
He added that the BJP’s agenda is development without discrimination.
Reminding the people of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s various schemes and initiatives, he stated that the Prime Minister is always thinking about the poor and is constantly working to improve their condition.
He also informed me that BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and a few other senior leaders met Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh.
He stated that the purpose of the meeting was to convey the Archbishop of PM Modi’s assurance that his only agenda is to live and let live without discrimination based on religious, communal, or ethnic lines.
According to Hek, the Archbishop also appreciated the development ensured by the BJP government at the Center.
Lastly, in response to rumours that the central leadership sidelining the state BJP, Al Hek stated, “This is a very wrong perception.” Everybody is working towards the same goal. Our goal is to ensure that we are setting off 60 districts this time. Our goal and mission are to win the election and form the Meghalaya double engine government.”
