Irked by the delay in implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, the Khasi Student Union central body led by its president Lambokstar Marngar and general secretary Donald Thabah, erected an ILP check gate at Pahammawlein village on the National Highway 6 in Ri Bhoi district today to protest the alleged delay by the government in introducing ILP in the state to combat illegal influx into the state.
The KSU members also checked vehicles entering Meghalaya through National Highway-6 for their documents and ensured that vehicles without valid documents were not allowed to enter the state.
After getting to know of the KSU’s activities, Magistrate and Ri Bhoi Police officials rushed to the spot and stopped the KSU from putting up the check gate and urged them to hold discussions with the government.
Lambokstar Marngar and Donald Thabah said that the reason behind the erection of ILP check gate was to protest the “adamant attitude of the state government and the central government to implement ILP and MRSSA to check the illegal influx into the state of Meghalaya.”
