Mawphlang is a Town and Block in East Khasi Hills district and is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes. There are 184 villages in this block. The estimated population of Mawphlang in 2023 is 94,368.
United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Eugeneson Lyngdoh is the sitting MLA of the constituency. Lyngdoh won the seat for the party in 2018 Assembly elections with 13,285 votes by defeating Congress candidate Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem with a margin of 4401 votes.
