Himanta Biswa Sarma also came out guns blazing against the NPF and stated that NPF has already conceded defeat.

Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Himanta Biswa Sarma today made a big statement on the Naga issue ahead of the Nagaland assembly election. Soon after addressing a rally at Pugobhoto in support of NDPP candidate Y.Vikheho Swu, Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke exclusively to Northeast Live and shared his thoughts on the Naga political issue.

When asked about his reaction since the Congress alleged that the issue finds no mention in the BJP manifesto, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there will be a solution soon and reiterated about PM Narendra Modi’s government of recogninzing the uniqe history of the Naga people.

Sarma said,”You see we are in negotiation process. This is not a election issue but this is our conviction that we need to settle it (Naga Political Issue) considering the uniquness of the Naga people. We have to respect the unique history, unique character of Naga people and I am sure that solution will be there sooner or later.”

Not only this, Himanta Biswa Sarma also came out guns blazing against the NPF and stated that NPF has already conceded defeat.

Himanta Biswa Sarma added, “After the election Neiphiu Rio will become the Chief Minister once again. So that is the agreement between the NDPP and the BJP.”

Sarma said,”Today NPF is also contesting the elections, but You can imagine that out of 60 seats, NPF has fielded candidates in only 22 seats. That means before election they have conceeded defeat because you (NPF) cannot form a government without 31 seats .You will need at least 31 seats. So, NPF is contesting only 22 seats, that means they (NPF) has already raised their hands signifying that we cannot form the government.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma also reiterated about the strong commitment between the BJP, NDPP. In this context he said, “As you know that NDPP is a regional party and BJP is a national party. We both together formed alliance in the last assembly election and we gave people of Nagaland a most stable government in the last 5 years. you have always seen some kind of ups and downs in Nagaland politics as well as in the politics of other Northeast states. But in the last 5 years it was in a way one of the best period for Nagaland.

Himanta Biswa Sarma added,”BJP & NDPP in the last 5 years we have given a stable government to the state of Nagaland. In the last 5 years because of our strong friendship between the BJP and the NDPP, we have given a solid and stable government to the people of Nagaland. After the election Neiphiu Rio will become the Chief Minister once again. So that is the agreement between the NDPP and the BJP.”
When asked about the prospects of NDPP winning the Pugobhoto seat, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I think we will hands down. Mr Swu has the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as well as the people of Pugobhoto. I am sure he will win with huge & huge margin.”
