It was a proud moment for India as actress Deepika Padukone unveiled the FIFA World Cup 2022 Trophy in Qatar on Sunday. The actress, along with legendary Spanish football player Iker Casillas, unveiled the trophy ahead of the utterly-thrilling final match. However, Deepika’s sartorial choice for the event of great significance raised many eyebrows.

Deepika, who became the first Indian brand ambassador of the French luxury house Louis Vuitton, turned up clad in an LV ensemble for the trophy unveiling. What she wore was a crisp white shirt layered with an exaggerated tan-hued sleeveless jacket (a parka). The jacket, it appeared, had a lot happening all over it.

By that, we mean her jacket featured gobs of details such as multiple zippers, a broad belt, an elaborate black covering on shoulders, ruched panels and loose drawstrings. The separates were further layered with a pleated black midi skirt and high boots.

Soon after Deepika’s photos from the event surfaced on the internet, fans were quick to express their displeasure about the outfit. Even the comments section of Louis Vuitton’s Instagram post featuring the trophy unveiling moment was flooded with comments from fuming fans.

“Louis Vuitton, you should have given her something better to wear. Why are you doing that to her,” a fan asked. “Why is she dressed like a duffel bag,” another Instagram user wrote. “Stop putting atrocious clothes on this stunning woman,” a comment read. “The only letdown in finals was her outfit,” read another comment.

On the work front, Deepika Padukone is gearing up for the release of Pathaan. The film, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, is slated to release on January 25.
