Student Suicide Cases On The Rise In Rajasthan’s Kota, 16 Cases In 7 Months This Year

Kota, a popular coaching hub in Rajasthan, has reported a significant rise in the number of student death cases. As per reports, 16 deaths occurred just in the first 7 months of the current year.

On Monday, a 17-year-old boy, who arrived in Kota last week to prepare for medical entrance exam NEET died by suicide becoming the 16th incident of student death in Kota.

The deceased has been identified as Pushpendra Singh, a native of Jalore district.

As per sources, Singh was found dead at his hostel on Monday morning and left no suicide note behind.

Of the 16 deaths so far, 11 cases were reported in the past three months alone, police reports said.

On July 8, another 17-year-old Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) aspirant was found dead in his rented accommodation in Rajasthan’s Kota.

Last year, 15 students died by suicide in Kota.

Over the past few years, several students have died by suicide in Kota. Many have blamed the pressure of studies and the fear of failure among students.

In the wake of an increase in such cases, the Government of Rajasthan planned to introduce the Rajasthan Coaching Institute (Control and Regulation) Bill 2023 to reduce some of the stress on students.


Every year, lakhs of students from across the country flock to the prominent education hub to prepare for competitive exams for entry into the country’s top engineering and medical colleges.
