In a rather sensational incident, stones were pelted at Vande Bharat Express in West Bengal’s Malda district on Monday. The incident comes just four days after the launch of the train in the state.

The incident occurred near Samsi Kumarganj of Kathia Division. Partial damage to one of the bogies was reported due to the impact of the unprecedented attack.

However, all passengers are reported to be safe. According to sources, Railways has begun an internal probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari termed the incident “unfortunate and sickening.” He also asked if it was a revenge for ‘Jai Shree Ram’ chants on the inaugural day. Further, he urged the Prime Minister’s Office to hand over the probe to National Investigation Agency and demanded punishment for the perpetrators.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express on Friday, hours after he lost his mother Heeraben. This is the first Vande Bharat Express in West Bengal as well as eastern India.
