Odisha minister Naba Das shot by police personnel; vicitm stated to be critical

Odisha Health Minister Naba Das sustained injuries after being shot at by some unidentified miscreant near Brajarajnagar in the Jharsuguda district

In a sensational incident, Odisha Health Minister Naba Das was shot by an ASI, on duty, with his service pistol, near Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district. Minister Naba Das was on his way to attend a programme at Gandhi Chowk in Brajarajnagar.

Das sustained multiple chest injuries. According to reports, he is said to be critical and has been airlifted to capital Bhubaneswar from Brajarajnagar where the incident took place.

“At a public grievance office opening, Naba Das was the chief guest. When he arrived, a crowd gathered to welcome him. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard. We saw police personnel running away after shooting from close range; Minister to be airlifted to Bhubaneswar,” said an eye witness.

The ASI reportedly, who was on duty opened fire at the health minister after he stepped out of his vehicle. The exact reason behind the firing is still unclear.

Meanwhile, the Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik condemns the attack on State Health Minister Naba Das and also took stock of his condition at the Apollo Hospital. CM Patnaik has also asked the police to speed up the prob into the matter.
