G20 Summit: Meet the 4 Indians behind Delhi declaration that achieved ‘100% consensus’

The 100% consensus on the New Delhi Declaration has been hailed by one and all as one of India’s major diplomatic win at the at the just concluded G20 Summit in New Delhi. Getting on board tough players such as China and Russia on one side and the Western bloc on the other was no mean feat.

India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said it took more than “200 hours of non-stop negotiations” by a team of Indian diplomats to get the consensus.

There were 4 diplomats who worked tirelessly for months to draft the New Delhi G20 Leaders Declaration.


Here is all you need to know about the 4 diplomats who were behind the G20 Delhi Declaration –

  1. Eenam Gambhir:
Eenam Gambhir

Eenam Gambhir, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 2005 batch, is also the Joint Secretary G20 in the G20 Secretariat and the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

Eenam Gambhir has obtained two master’s degrees, the first in mathematics from Hindu College of the University of Delhi and the second in advanced international security from the University of Geneva. Eenam Gambhir is fluent in three languages- English, Hindi and Spanish.

2.Ashish Sinha:

Ashish Sinha


Ashish Sinha is also an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 2005 batch. He has served positions as a desk officer for Pakistan in New Delhi as well as the office of the External Affairs Minister. He is also fluent in Spanish.

3.Abhay Thakur:

Abhay Thakur

Abhay Thakur is the Additional Secretary, the Sous-sherpa, No. 2 to India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant. He served as the envoy for Nigeria and Mauritius and handled a number of nations for the Ministry of External Affairs, including Nepal and Bhutan.

4.Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur:

Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur is a Joint Secretary and the lead negotiator on the Ukraine conflict paragraphs. Naidu obtained a master’s degree from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.Naidu is a member of the 1998 IFS class.

As Chef de Cabinet to the President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Naidu has international experience. He has handled the MEA’s Economic Diplomacy division and headed the Europe West Division where he was in charge of ties with major G7 countries including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the European Union, reports IE.

India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant took to Twitter and congratulate India for the big success.

“The grand success of #G20India Leaders’ Summit, with 100% consensus from all countries on all issues has been possible only because of PM @narendramodi ‘s stature and standing of excellence at the global stage. It is truly an honour for me to be his Sherpa for India’s #G20 Presidency,”Amitabh Kant wrote on X.
