India World’s Biggest Employer in Defence sector

India's Defence Ministry has topped the chart by employing 2.92 million people, followed by the U.S. with 2.91 million.
India can now boast of being the World’s Biggest Employer in Defence sectory leaving behind superpowers like the U.S. and China.
As per a report by the STATISTA, India’s Defence Ministry has topped the chart by employing 2.92 million people. This figure includes combined active service personnel, reservists and civilian staff.
A close second to the India is the US Department of Defense which employs 2.91 million people.
According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the five largest spenders in 2021 in the defence sector were the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom and Russia.
US military spent an amount of USD 801 billion in 2021 while China, the world’s second-largest spender, allocated an estimated USD 293 billion to its military.
Meanwhile, as per the SIPRI report India spent USD 76.6 Billion for it’s military in 2021, which is the third highest in the world.
Statista is a Germany-based private organisation that provides data and statistics about various issues worldwide.
