Today, India is celebrating Gandhi Jayanti commemorating the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and 119th birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister recognising their contributions towards the Indian Independence movement. However, the date is also a reminder to some Bollywood movie buffs of the Ajay Devgn-starring film Drishyam.

In Drishyam released in 2015, a dialogue involving this date (October 2) was repeated so often that it is etched in the memories of movie buffs.
Even after 9 years, fans still can not get over the scene from the movie and every year on October 2, they turn up with the annual reminder to tell you how Vijay Salgaonkar (Character played by Ajay Devgn) and his family uses this date to create an alibi to get out of a murder. And this year was no different. Here are some memes:

A user wrote, “Yaad hai na 2nd October ko kya hua tha.”

“When Vijay Salgaonkar reminds you it’s not just any day, it’s 2nd Oct!,” wrote another user.

In the movie, Vijay Salgaonkar and his family use this date to create an alibi to get out of a murder. They said on October 2, they went to attend Swami Chinmayananda’s Satsang in Panaji, Goa. They ate pav bhaji in a hotel and returned on October 3. To support his claim that his family visited Panjim, Vijay produces bus tickets, movie tickets, hotel and dining receipts. The movie uses the date as a major motif.
