Won’t sit in govt until demand is fulfilled: Pradyot Debbarma

TIPRA Motha chief made this significant statement after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi
TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishor Debbarma today reaffirmed his stand for a constitutional solution for the Greater Tipraland issue.
Soon after his arrival in Agartala, after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, Pradyot informed that creation of a Greater Tipraland topped the agenda of the meeting.
The TIPRA Motha chief while revealing as to what transpired in the meeting, said that his party will not become a part of the government until and unless the demand for a constitutional solution is fulfilled.
“Tiprasas have suffered for 70 years. We have given them the commitment. Without the commitment being fulfilled we will not sit in the government. If our demand is not fulfilled than all options are open for us and this we have clearly placed before them,” Pradyot said.
Responding to a query on the involvement of the Centre appointed interlocutor in the matter, the TIPRA Motha chief stated,”On the interlocutor issue, Union HM confessed in front of us that our process has been delayed due to the situation in Manipur. But I dont want to talk much more on that but my main objective is constitutional solution for Greater Tipraland.”
Pradyot Kishore Debbarma also took a jibe at the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) for allegedly not playing the desired role in addressing the demand of the indigenous Tiprasas despite remaining in the government since 2018.
He said,”I dont want to repeat the same mistake by sitting in the govt which IPFT made in 2018. Nothing happened despite 5 years went by. I do not want to repeat that mistake.”
Earlier, there were intense speculations about a political development in Tripura after a late night hush meeting between Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha and TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on June 29. Following this, Debbarma accompanied by 9 of his party MLAs left for New Delhi the next day to meet the Union Home minister.
The developments triggered speculations on whether the Centre would concede the Tipra demand for maximum autonomy and devolution of powers and the possibility of Tipra Motha siding with ruling BJP in Tripura in the event of an agreement or a commitment.
