Tripura food and civil supplies minister said that there is no crisis at present, and the food and civil supplies department is well prepared for monsoon

Sushanta Chowdhury, Tripura’s new minister for food and civil supplies minister, on Sunday stated that Tripura will not face any shortage of food grain or other necessities distributed through the fair price shops in the coming monsoon as there are enough buffer stocks in the government warehouses.

The minister held a review meeting on Sunday at the department headquarters with the senior officials of the department regarding the present stock situation and precautionary measures taken keeping in view of the coming monsoon.

During monsoons, Tripura experiences food crisis as the national highway and railway connecting Tripura and Assam often get disrupted due to flooding and landslides, thus stopping transportation of goods and essentials including fuel and food items from other parts of India.

After the review meeting, the food and civil supplies minister said that there is no crisis at present, and the food and civil supplies department is well prepared as the government wants to ensure that people not only get the necessary supplies through the PDS but also that there is no hurdle or shortage of supplies.

The government is also planning to increase the facilities through the PDS, he added.
