Tripura: Stage set for bypolls: CM Manik Saha confident of victory in Opposition bastion Boxanagar

Over 200 Opposition supporters jumped ship to join BJP today in presence of CM Manik Saha in Boxanagar

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is on a mission to ensure that the BJP will win the upcoming by-election in the Boxanagar and Dhanpur constituencies. CM Saha is quite confident that people will reject the Opposition in it’s bastion Boxanagar.

Since 1972 until the last assembly elections in 2018, the CPM has won the seat 7 times, while the Congress could manage to win 3 times.

Tripura CM Manik Saha today hit out at the Opposition as he led a party campaign in the Boxanagar constituency. According to CM Saha, voters are ‘ready to reject’ the Opposition.

Sharing glimpses of his blazing campaign trail in Boxanagar in X (formerly known as Twitter), the Tripura CM stated, “There is a clear indication that the people of Boxanagar assembly constituency will no longer support the cheap politics of Communist & Congress. They are now ready to bloom Lotus in the bye-election scheduled on Sept 5.”

It was a shot in arm for the BJP, as over 200 Opposition supporters jumped ship to join BJP today in presence of CM Manik Saha.

The Tripura Chief Minister in his social media post stated, “Attended a Uthaan Sabha held at booth no- 36 under Boxanagar constituency in support of BJP candidate Shri Tafajjal Hossain & welcomed 180 opposition voters to the world’s largest party.

Addressed the karjyakartas of Booth no- 45, 46 & 47 under 20-Boxanagar constituency in support of Bharatiya Janata Party nominated candidate for bye-election Tafajjal Hossain. Deprived in left regime, 36 Congress & CPI-M voters from 10 families joined the BJP family in a Bazar Sabha.”

The by-polls for the Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats was necessitated by the passing away of CPI-M MLA Samsul Haque who had won the seat by defeating Taffajal Hossain of the Bharatiya Janata Party with a margin of 4849 votes.

On August 12, Opposition parties in Tripura- TIPRA Motha, CPI-M and the Congress had ‘decided’ to fight the BJP together in the by-polls for Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly constituencies on September 5. As per inputs, the meeting primarily focused to ensure that there are ‘no division of votes’ amongst the Opposition parties.

However, the very next day the CPI(M)-led announced its candidates for the bypolls. Subsequent to this, the Congress and the TIPRA Motha announced that they will not be fielding candidates for the bypolls.
