Tripura Polls: Congress, CPI (M) have no agendas to reach out to voters, says CM Manik Saha

First Published: 5th April, 2024 15:40 IST

The Tripura CM said that both the parties lack issues to face the polls, whereas the BJP's main poll plank is the development agenda.

In a sharp attack on the Congress, in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the party has no substantial issue or agenda to reach out to the voters.

CM Saha’s statement came in response to the Congress’ allegations that its posters and banners were either damaged or replaced by the BJP.

Not only this, the Tripura CM also took a dig at the CPI (M) and said that both the parties lack issues to face the polls and instead are only making attempts to corner the BJP.

Countering the allegations of the Opposition, Manik Saha said that his party’s poll plank is nothing but development and welfare which happened during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

CM Saha said, “They have no issues left with them. CPI (M) leaders reach Congress Bhawan and similarly Congress leaders also go to the CPI (M) office. After that they call you (journalists) and they only do press conferences.”

Where will they put banners or festoons, what will they say in their festoons, they have no issues, nothing will happen only if photographs are printed. PM Modi has done so much (development), we are going to the people on this agenda. Festoons hold no significance for them (Congress, CPI-M). They are deliberately creating such issues. We only want to work for the people and working on that direction.”

Only a day ago the opposition Congress in Tripura had alleged that the State Election Commission, had failed to address the rampant vandalism of its election campaign materials by members of the ruling party.

It may be mentioned that Tripura is going to Lok Sabha polls in 2 phases- April 19 and April 26. Polling will also be held for by-election to the Ramnagar legislative assembly constituency on April 19.
