Congress' AIIC in charge, Tripura, Ajay Kumar was at the headquarters of the CPI-M in Agartala where he held talks with CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury among other leaders.

The Congress and CPI-M have finalized their alliance in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Tripura. Amid much speculations, leaders of both the parties huddled at the CPI-M headquarter in Agartala this evening to take the final call.

Congress’ AIIC in charge, Tripura, Ajay Kumar was at the headquarters of the CPI-M in Agartala where he held talks with CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury among other leaders.

This indeed is a signficant development after the opposition CPI (M) on January 11 had sought unity of all secular forces, including Congress and TIPRA Motha, in order to defeat BJP in the Assembly elections.

Talking to reporters at Agartala, senior Left leader and CPI (M) national general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the party’s state executive meeting on Tuesday decided to have discussion on issues with the secular parties in order to prevent division of anti-BJP votes and ensure defeat of BJP’s communal politics.
