Tripura: Congress, CPIM delegations stopped from visiting Gandatwisa
Tripura Congress and CPI-M leaders said today that they were stopped from entering Gandatwisa and meeting families affected by the recent violence that took place following the brutal killing of a tribal youth who was trying to save a mentally challenged boy.
“The government’s decision to block opposition parties from visiting Gandatwisa is a clear attempt to hide the true situation from the public and suppress the voices of the affected families, CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said.
The CPIM delegation included MLA Nayan Sarkar, Ramu Das, Sudip Sarkar and other senior members of the party.
Earlier, a Congress delegation led by state president Asish Kumar Saha and former Minister and MLA Sudip Roy Barman was also stopped by the police in the Kalajhari forest area citing imposition of prohibitory orders under BNS 163.
The Congress team asked why they were stopped while delegations from TIPRA Motha and BJP were permitted to enter Gandatwisa despite the restrictions.
