Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has assured to meet the 10,323 protesting teachers very soon. Replying to former Chief Minister and CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar in the Assembly, Chief Minister

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has assured to meet the 10,323 protesting teachers very soon. Replying to former Chief Minister and CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar in the Assembly, Chief Minister Saha said he would soon be meeting a delegation of the retrenched teachers, the date of which cannot be confirmed as of now.

However, the Tripura Chief Minister stated that since the issue is complicated, any solution in this regard would take time as there was nothing much to discuss.

Hundreds of ‘Terminated’ school teachers took to the streets of Agartala yesterday demanding the State Government reinstate their jobs.

The Terminated 10,323 School Teachers even met with Water cannons, lathi charges, and tear gas shells as the police tried to disperse the agitators near the circuit house. Protestors also tried to break the police barricades and proceed toward the Assembly.

It needs to be mentioned the two-day assembly session which began on Friday concluded yesterday. The session is probably the last for the current government as Tripura goes to the polls early next year.

Meanwhile, the protests caused an uproar in the Assembly with opposition CPIM and Congress MLAs demanding that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha met the agitators and hear their grievances.

Speaking in the House on Monday, opposition leader Manik Sarkar said, “I was unaware that 10,323 teachers were about to hold Vidhansabha Abhiyan. Many of them sustained injuries in attacks from the police when the latter resorted to lathi charges, and used water cannons and tear gas on them. Around 30-32 of them were injured and 3 are hospitalized. This is a misuse of power”.

The Tripura High Court terminated a total of 10,323 school teachers due to a faulty recruitment process in 2014. The retrenched teachers and the erstwhile Left Front government had filed Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order and the apex Court upheld the High Court’s order in 2017.
