Tripura CEO shares details of arrangements for Dhanpur and Boxanagar bye polls on Sept 5
Two days after the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) announcement of polls and by-polls across various states across the country, Tripura’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Puneet Agrawal, has unveiled the details of the upcoming by-election process in two constituencies in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
Emphasizing the commitment to a fair, transparent, and peaceful by-election, Agrawal assured that measures have been taken to address potential violations and maintain security.
Addressing reporters at the state secretariat, Agrawal outlined the schedule for the by-election and highlighted the joint measures with law enforcement agencies, including the police and Border Security Force (BSF), to identify sensitive areas.
A total of 93,234 eligible voters are expected to participate in the by-election, with 43,087 voters in the Boxanagar constituency and 50,147 voters in the Dhanpur assembly segment. This includes 20,921 female voters in Boxanagar and 24,203 female voters in Dhanpur.
The by-elections will be conducted across 51 polling stations in the Boxanagar assembly constituency and 59 polling stations in Dhanpur.
Rigorous efforts are being made to ensure a smooth polling process, including the establishment of special monitoring committees and media monitoring panels. Control rooms have been set up to address grievances and adhere to ECI guidelines.
To guarantee security and order during the by-election, Agrawal confirmed the dispatch of central security forces, responsible for area domination and security maintenance. Given Tripura’s significant border with Bangladesh, measures are being taken to prevent unauthorized entry and infiltration, with strict vigilance enforced by BSF officials.
The by-polls for the Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats, necessitated by the passing away of CPIM MLA Samsul Haque and the resignation of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik respecrtively, will take place on September 5, counting of votes would take place on September 8.
The model code of conduct came into effect immediately upon the formal announcement of the by-election, and nominations are now being accepted until August 17.
Nomination papers will be reviewed on August 18, and candidates can withdraw their nominations by August 21.
