Tripura BJP on Tuesday announced its candidate list for the upcoming bypolls for both Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly constituencies in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, scheduled to be held on September 5.
Bindu Debnath will contest for the Dhanpur seat, while Taffajal Hossain will contest for the Boxanagar seat.
The BJP announced its candidate list two days after the CPI-led Left Front announced its candidates for both seats on Sunday.
In Dhanpur constituency, Kaushik Chanda will be the Left Front’s candidate, while Mizan Hussain will contest from Boxanagar, Left Front chairman and former MP Narayan Kar said.
The by-election in Dhanpur was necessitated after Pratima Bhoumik resigned from the Assembly days after her election, while the Boxanagar seat was left vacant after CPI (M) MLA Samsol Haque passed away in July this year following a heart attack.
A total of 93,234 eligible voters are expected to participate in the by-elections, with 43,087 voters in the Boxanagar constituency and 50,147 voters in the Dhanpur assembly segment.
This includes 20,921 female voters in Boxanagar and 24,203 female voters in Dhanpur.
The by-elections will be conducted across 51 polling stations in the Boxanagar assembly constituency and 59 polling stations in Dhanpur.
