TIPRA Motha suspends Abul Kher Mia for 6 months on disciplinary grounds

Abu Kher Mia had grabbed attention for encouraging voters in both constituencies to support the BJP in the upcoming by-polls despite being a Motha politician

In a big development ahead of the bye-polls in two constituencies of Tripura, the TIPRA Motha party suspended Abul Kher Mia from the party for a period of six months on disciplinary grounds, senior TIPRA leader Animesh Debbarma informed on Saturday.

Mia had contested from the Boxanagar constituency as a Motha candidate during the last assembly elections this year and lost.

The suspension effectively bars him from engaging in any form of campaign activity under the party’s banner for the upcoming by-elections in the Boxanagar and Dhanpur assembly constituencies.
Abu Kher Mia had grabbed attention for encouraging voters in both constituencies to support the BJP candidate in the upcoming by-election scheduled for September 5.

He further advocated for backing the BJP’s governance at both the central and state levels for the betterment of these constituencies, particularly the Muslim community.

Animesh Debbarma clarified that Abu Kher’s statements were of a personal nature.

He further said that the TIPRA Motha party is yet to decide on its course of action on whether to support candidates of any party or abstain from the by-election process altogether. This decision is expected to be communicated on August 22.

It may be added here that earlier in the day, the TIPRA Citizen’s Federation (TCF), the non-tribal faction of the TIPRA Motha party and Tripura’s main opposition, had pressed for the party’s president to take decisive disciplinary measures against Abu Kher Mia because of his alleged anti-party activities.
